For their first production with The National Theatre, Punchdrunk approached John van der Put to create the magical sequences for the show.

In a crowded bar Mephistopheles conjours cocktails from the ether, pouring and distributing drinks to bemused spectators only inches away. As quickly as they appear they are poured back into a silver shaker and in a burst of flames return to dust.

In a rather more intimate moment, a match is lit and transforms into a small blue flower that is given to accompany the spectator on their journey.
